Thanks for your interest in publishing your data in the Movebank Data Repository! Below we will collect the information needed to initiate a submission.

Your data will be reviewed within Movebank by a Repository curator, in association with one or more written papers, reports, or manuscripts describing the data, to ensure that data are correctly imported and fully documented. After the review is complete, files are downloaded and published as a data package. For more information, please see the Submission Guidelines.

Timeline of the review and publication: In order to allow sufficient time for the data review, we recommend submitting a depositor agreement while manuscripts are under peer review, and at least four weeks prior to the desired release date. After initiating the review and obtaining any additional information needed to publish the data, we can provide a reserved DOI and citation to add to manuscripts. Please be aware that the review process can take time, allowing us to work with you to archive your data in accordance with FAIR Principles. To minimize review time, please make sure you have followed these best practices for preparing your data.

Dataset description: Data are published as packages of files. Each data package comes from a study on Movebank and has its own author list. Read the Submission Guidelines for more information about the types of data published.

Terms of use: Your data package will be publicly archived, include a DOI, and be licensed with a Creative Commons license to facilitate re-use and allow the Repository to distribute, back up, migrate or reformat data as needed to maintain access to published data. Read here for more about licenses and expectations of data users. In submitting data through Movebank, you agree to Movebank’s user agreement, general terms of use and privacy policy.

Repository responsibilities: The Movebank Data Repository guarantees storage of published data packages for a minimum of 10 years, in accordance with our Preservation Policy and guidelines of the German Research Foundation on the handling of research data. After the expiration of this term, the Repository will not remove the data from its archive. The Repository accepts no responsibility for mistakes, omissions, or legal infringements within the published data. While every care will be taken to preserve the data, the Repository is not liable for loss or damage to the data.
