Data from: Study "Brown Pelican_South Atlantic Bight" [part]

Abstract

This dataset contains locations acquired from Brown Pelicans outfitted with GPS tags from a colony (Island MN) along the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We deployed 65-g solar GPS Platform Terminal transmitters (GeoTrak, Inc., North Carolina, USA) on adult pelicans during incubation. Locations correspond to the movements of pelicans tracked during the 2022 breeding season and during the subsequent autumn migratory period and the wintering period. Transmitters were programmed to record 10 fixes/day (every 90 min from 0700 to 0100 GMT). Transmitters were attached with a backpack harness system composed of Teflon ribbon. These tags were deployed to supplement movement data that was previously collected for this species from the Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic Bight, which represent the only available movement data for the species from the NC coast. Research was conducted and permitted in accordance with the U.S. Geological Survey Bird Banding Lab (Permit 22408), The NC Wildlife Resources Commission, and Clemson University (IACUC permit 2017-008).
